The main port of Fourni, built since 1985, is the main passenger and commercial port of the island. Further improvement projects are in the planning stage and are expected to be funded soon. In the villages of Thymaina and Chrysomilia there are fishing shelters that serve the ferry connection between them and with Ikaria and Samos. In addition, small jetties in other settlements and beaches serve fishermen and tourists.
Infrastructure and facilities**
The infrastructure of Fourni includes a helipad in Katiforida, a desalination plant in Chrysomilia with a production capacity of 100 sq.m. of drinking water per day, and a municipal oil mill in the Plagia area. Also, in Skylomantra is the island’s landfill. For sports activities, Fourni has a municipal football field with turf and a 5×5 field, while additional 5×5 fields exist in Thymaina and Chrysomilia.

- Ancient Era (~1000 BC): In ancient times, Fourni were important for their naval position. Although the archaeological findings are limited, references in geographical works and few inscriptions suggest the presence of human activity.
- Roman Era (146 BC – 330 AD): Fourni served as a refueling and resting station for ships, maintaining their strategic importance.
- Byzantine Period (330 – 1453 AD): The islands gained strategic importance with the existence of small communities and churches.
- Ottoman Rule (15th – 19th century): Fourni became a haven for pirates and suffered frequent raids.
- Incorporation into the Greek State (1912): With their integration into the Greek State, came stability and development. Residents came from different areas, revitalizing the local community and economy.
